Egypt sets conditions for entry of aid convoy Lifeline 5

A spokesperson for the Egyptian foreign ministry said Monday that the Egyptian authorities would not allow the new Lifeline aid convoy to cross into the Gaza Strip unless it abided by the conditions set for its entry.

In a statement on Monday, the spokesman affirmed that the Egyptian embassies in the countries this convoy would travel across informed the competent authorities there that the Egyptian rules that regulate the entry of aid into Gaza entail unloading the aid at the port of Al-Arish and leaving the Egyptian Red Crescent take charge of delivering this aid to Gaza.
He claimed that the Egyptian mechanism does not allow the passage of land convoys and sets a maximum number of 100 individuals who are allowed to escort their convoy into Gaza, provided that they must provide the Egyptian authorities with all information needed about themselves two weeks before they leave the port of departure.

The spokesman noted that former British lawmaker George Galloway, the chief coordinator of the convoy, is still on the list of persons banned from entering Egypt, and thus he will not be allowed under any circumstances to set foot on Egyptian soil.

The Jordanian committee of Lifeline for Gaza affiliated with the labor unions said it made all preparations for the participation of its convoy Ansar 1 in the British convoy Lifeline 5.

Head of the committee Wael Al-Sakka said that more than 100 Jordanians of all spectra would participate in the convoy, noting that participants from Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia would also join the Jordanian convoy.
